Fifth Grade Math
In these difficult and unusual times, my students have demonstrated exceptional courage, resilience, and determination to continue learning. In our scheduled Google Meets, we discuss assignments, work on problem solving, review learning concepts, and continue to build community by having periods of free and open discussion. I give students ample opportunities to interact with each other on-line while working out solutions to math problems and discussing a range of science topics. Students remain engaged by viewing my daily videos, listening to my explanations, and observing me solving sample problems. From these activities, my students are
actively engaged in the problem-solving process. I also provide supplemental materials in various forms so that students can seek alternate methods of solving problems and be exposed to explanations of concepts in a variety of ways. Students have been provided on-line access to most of their textbooks, making it easier for them to complete their work at home or wherever they are doing their work. I meet with individual students when they need additional help to support their learning. Most of the students have adapted to the new learning paradigm, but I miss them so much, am so very proud of their performance, and can’t wait to see them again in person once we can meet for class again.
