Fall 2019 AMC8 Contest

Congratulations to our Geometry 8 and Algebra 7/8 students for their participation in the 35th Annual American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC 8).  The nationwide AMC 8 contest was held at St. Veronica on November 12, 2019.

The contest is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.  The examination provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at the junior high level to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications.

Many problems are designed to challenge students and to offer problem solving experiences beyond those provided in most junior high school mathematics classes.  The nationwide high scoring students are invited to participate in the AMC 10.  In addition, the top three students from each participating school are recognized as gold, silver, and bronze level placement recipients for Outstanding Achievement.  The national average score this year was 9.4 out of 25 correct answers.

The Fall 2019 AMC 8 Outstanding Achievement awards at St. Veronica are

Gold – Katie Boland (score:  16/25)
Silver – Julia Schnittger (score:  14/25)
Bronze – Daniel Jung (score:  11/25)
